Can you eat your way to better sight?

3276757325_be2fb416ee_zThe eyes are not just a window to the soul; they may be a surprisingly reliable guide to how healthily you eat. While there is no correlation between refusing to eat your carrots and actual night vision, nutrition and optical health are closely linked, with scientists currently looking at the role played by vitamins and minerals in the prevention of eye diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts.

That a link exists has long been understood: the eye condition xerophthalmia, a common cause of blindness in developing countries, is known to be caused by a lack of vitamin A, which is found in sources such as meat and fresh vegetables.

4 Tips To Wear Pink This October

2911432910_afb3453541_zThe month of October is observed as breast cancer awareness month, where women are encouraged to wear pink and spread awareness. So, get into your pink outfit, but be careful about choosing the right shade.

Here are some tips for you:

  • Mix your shade with other colors:Veronique Henderson, creative director at Color Me Beautiful said  ‘whatever you’re coloring; you will be able to mix your pink with the other big color this season – any grey’.
  • Try the rich pink shade: If you match your skin tone with Catherine Zeta Jones, then you will need a strong rich pink. It can be worn as sportswear to more formal attire, if solid pink is not for you, then incorporate it as part of a print on a top.
  • Choose contrasting shades for your eyes and hair color: If your hair is salt and pepper, silver or white (natural or not) then hot, rose and fuchsia pinks are must-haves in your wardrobe. Pink will give you that boost of energy that you deserve.
  • Try soft and muted shades: If your overall look is soft and muted then make your pink soft and muted too. The best shades of pink for you are salmon and powder pinks.

Breast Cancer: Vision and Eye Problems

8370206111_55ea1eeda0_zThough not a common side effect, breast cancer treatment may affect your eyes, including your vision.

Breast cancer treatments that may cause eye problems are:

  • red, itchy, or dry eyes
  • watery eyes
  • conjunctivitis (pink eye)
  • blurry or double vision
  • seeing dark spots

If you have vision problems, it can be a sign of a more serious medical condition. Call your doctor right away if you notice that you’re having trouble seeing or if your vision changes.

For more details you can read the original article on breastcancer.

Eye Exercises for Nearsightedness

urlNearsightedness or short sightedness is a condition that many people will experience during their lifetime. The inability to focus on objects far away is due to weakened vision that is often a result of the natural aging process of your body. Also known as myopia, nearsightedness is usually rectified with a number of different methods.

Remember that your eyes are a muscle and that muscles need to be worked regularly to stay in good condition.

Eye exercises can help in a number of different ways:

  • Increase eye function and help you focus better
  • Reduce eyestrain
  • Reduce sensitivity to light
  • Increase or strengthen your eyes
  • Help with other aspects of vision such as hand-eye coordination, depth perception, peripheral vision, etc.

Almonds and Eye Health

bitter_almond_oil

Almonds are good for your eyes because they contain vitamin E, along with monounsaturated fatty acids similar to those found in olive oil.

Almonds, like other nuts, are both nutrient-dense and energy-dense. As such, you don’t need to consume large portions to get their benefits. The combination of protein and healthy fats help keep you satisfied, so a small handful of almonds make for a great between-meal snack.

You can go through the website to know more about the almonds and eye health by clicking here.

Our eyes are very delicate organs, and we should plan routine eye exams whether or not we notice any problems.

By getting your eyes checked regularly, you’ll be able to keep them healthy your whole life. Neglect can be costly!
